Japanese Film Festival 2011 kicks off in Cork on Nov 6th

Japanese Film Festival 2011 kicks off in Cork on Nov 6th

The Chef of South Polar

The Japanese Film Festival 2011 starts its national tour in Cork, on Sunday 6th November before touring to Dublin, Limerick, Waterford and Galway throughout November.

The 2010 Festival – co-organised by the Embassy of Japan, access>CINEMA and the Ireland Japan Association – boasted sell-out screenings in all locations, indicating a clear demand for high quality Japanese cinema; the Japanese Film Festival aims to satisfy this demand by bringing the best of new Japanese films to Irish audiences for the fourth consecutive year.

The programme in Cork, which is presented in partnership with the Corona Cork Film Festiva, will feature a diverse line-up of feature, documentary and animation films between Sunday November 6th and Friday November 10th inclusive.

Highlights in the programme include the gentle and moving Kabei - Our Mother from acclaimed director Yoji Yamada; the quirky drama Sawako Decides; award-winning psychological thriller Villain; and the uniquely vibrant Memories of Matsuko from festival favourite Tetsuya Nakashima.

Food enthusiasts can whet their appetites with the delightful comedy The Chef of South Polar and the engrossing yet simple documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

Meanwhile, anime fans can look forward to the emotional and visually magnificent Colorful, as well as a special screening of the epic and surreal The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
