Waterford Festival of Architecture to screen Build Something Modern
Build Something Modern, what's it going be?
As part of Waterford Festival of Architecture,
Garter Lane Arts Centre and waterfordfilmforall is screening the documentary Build
Something Modern. This is the story of
ground-breaking young Irish architects who travelled to Africa for excitement
and creative freedom, and found opportunities to design modern buildings.
These structures, including
churches, seminaries, hospitals and schools, were built as part of a massive
community effort. A touching and revealing film about people and the special
relationship they have with the things they create.
The
very first John Roberts Festival took place in 2000 to celebrate the buildings
of Waterford’s Georgian architect; among them Christ Church Cathedral, the
Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Bishops Palace and the Theatre Royal. The
festival has grown from strength to strength and marked its ten year
anniversary in 2010 by changing its name and extending its programme. The 2012
festival theme is ‘The Living City’.
The screening of Build Something Modern will
take place at Garter Lane Arts Centre at 7pm on Sunday, April 28. More information about what’s happening
