“... one of the most original and intelligent crime movies of recent years ...” Sight & Sound Magazine

When Raphayet pursues Zaida for his bride, he cannot afford the dowry. A chance deal with some Peace Corp volunteers to supply them with marijuana, helps him secure the marriage but starts the family on a tragic path. As tradition, superstition, crime and distrust meet head on, family loyalties crumble resulting in dishonour and bloodshed.

From the Directors of Embrace of the Serpent comes this tale of the Colombian marijuana trade during the 1960/70s and a resulting tribal war, which through greed and corruption caused the downfall of a respected indigenous Wayuu family.

Visually stunning and based on actual events, Birds of Passage is a meandering, breathtaking family drama.
