The LUX Audience Award is one of the biggest annual events in the European film calendar.
The award is presented every year by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. The award is aimed at celebrating European Cinema while encouraging debate around key common European values. Audiences across the EU are encouraged to vote on the shortlist of five films, with free screenings of the titles organised in every country across the bloc.

As part of the annual process, there is also a Young Talent Programme, where 27 young film professionals – one from each of the EU member states – take part in a fully funded training and networking programme in Strasbourg. Participants then take on a one-year ambassadorship, focused on increasing the visibility and impact of the LUX Audience Award nationally.
Karlis Dzjamko – Marketing Manager at access>CINEMA network site Cinemax Bantry – attended this year’s talent programme. He’s been kind enough to share his experience of the programme.
“I participated in the Lux Audience Award Young Talent Programme in Strasbourg, and it was an unforgettable experience. We explored the European Parliament and even attended a dynamic plenary session.

“Connecting with the Lux Audience Award team and fellow film industry professionals made every moment insightful and inspiring. A particular highlight was a workshop on cinema marketing, led by the Marketing Director of Kino Rotterdam, which provided valuable perspectives.
“We also visited two fantastic local cinemas that are part of the Europa Cinemas network, each with its own unique character.
“Another standout moment for me was the visit to ARTE. I have long admired their work in commissioning exceptional programmes and films that resonate across Europe. Stepping behind the scenes, learning about their approach, and touring their studios was quite amazing.

“Overall, the experience left me energised and filled with ideas. It reaffirmed my passion for working in cinema. It reminded me of the unique power of film to connect people across cultures.
“Looking ahead, I am excited to continue collaborating with the Lux Audience Award and to share more remarkable European films with our audiences at Cinemax Bantry.“
This year’s LUX Audience Award nominees include Ireland’s Christy, alongside Deaf, It Was Just an Accident, Love Me Tender and Sentimental Value.
