“★ ★ ★ ★ By making his feature debut with a found-footage, sci-fi fable set in the era of Pathé newsreels and rationing, Irish filmmaker Andrew Legge shows considerable ambition and vision ...” The Irish Independent
England, 1941. Sisters, Martha and Thomasina have created a machine, LOLA, which can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future. The mischievous pair develop a love for counterculture music and betting on horses.
But with World War II escalating they realise the machine may hold the key to defeating the Nazis. In providing vital information to British intelligence, they will make a decisive intervention in the outcome of the war.
As Thomasina becomes obsessed with LOLA’s potential as a weapon, the world-altering consequences of their actions take hold.
Andrew Legge's debut is a clever time-travel odyssey seamlessly combining authentic World War II-era newsreels with fictional home videos to create a fascinating found footage sci-fi story.
